Mustang won't start

I have an 88 GT. Other than a crane fireball ignition and a rear-mounted battery, the entire starting system is stock. I thought it was just a dead battery because the car just clicks when I try to start it. But when I go to jump the car it doesn't even bog the other car down when I attach the jumper cables and all it will do is click even after the cars have been hooked up for several minutes. I am using good jumper cables so that shouldn't be a problem. I also tried jumping the car from under the hood by hooking to the cables coming directly from the starter but it caused a huge spark from under the car (near the starter) and I lost all power. Any advice please??? Thanks.

Could be the Fuel Pump.

If you don't have a clue, please don't try and give tech advice.

Anyway...Sometimes, when the battery is really dead, or even when they're just shot, jumping it won't give it enough juice to start the car.

Try putting a charger on it for a few hours, and if that doesn't work...It's time to replace the battery. In the meantime, make sure you have all the connections tight, the main wire to the solenoid, and double check that the ground is good.

Sounds like your starter may have a direct short to ground.

Go to hell.

It just so happens that my car did the exact same thing not 8 months ago. Guess what it was? The fuel pump. You could hear the solenoid opening and closing...It held a charge...etc.

I should go to hell? Stay out of the tech sections you moron! There is no chance that your cars starter clicked, and wouldn't crank over because of the fuel pump.

A solenoid opening and closing, doesn't sound anything like the starter click from a dead battery.

Never!

...And the OP should make sure there's no calcification or rust on his battery terminals or starter wires.
