No you can keep the 5/30 and be okay.

I run Royal purple because it has been shown to increase HP when all the fluids in the drivetrain have been changed, it's a full synthetic, and has a good reputation. I used to use Mobil 1 on my truck and liked it but with my stang I decided to go purple.

Mobile 1 full synthetic 5W/20 every 7000, with a filter change at 3500. I'd like to start doing Amsoil, but I never seem to remember to get it before the next oild change comes around....

"how do you change your filter with out changing your oil? "

It's easy. Just spin off the old filter, spin on the new one, then top off the oil! My uncle used to do that with all his cars.

3k oil changes is something a long times ago the ole oil companies dreamed up...
Castrol Synthetic Blend- 10w-40 every 3k miles and ATF sometimes on my older cars.

I don't think it is something the oil co just made up, look at your oil when you put nice fresh oil in it (nice and clean no dirt you can see through it) when you change it, even at 3k, it is dirty and engine wear is in it. It cloggs up vital engine parts and causes damage.

You have medal rubbing metal it is going to create wear. Even metal rubbing dirt. Try it take a piece of sand paper (dirt and sand) and rub it over an on a piece of metal. It is giong to wear it, Do it 3000 times. That is what your car does on average every minute. Clean oil prevents this from happening.

If it was not important Indy, NASCAR, professional drag racing would not do it before and after every race.

true enough, BUT if your old oil is coming out black, any new oil will also be just as black within a day or two.
