Actually I just installed an MSD 6al, Msd p#8582 billet distributor, MSD Blaster 2 Coil and MSD 8.5mm plug wires. The reason I did this was because I switched from fuel injection to a 600 dp holley carb. So the stock distributor had no way to advance without the emissions sensors telling the computer when to do so. It does make a difference. The MSD does give more voltage than the stock setup and the car will run a lot smoother. I also like having the rev limiter. The great thing is once you have this installed it will always be sufficient for any mods that you will ever want to do. I drag race and will always run the MSD on my drag car and my street car.

Here is one from the other side. My pick up truck which is a Ram with carbureted 5.9L engine. Stock engine. Like 9:1, super small cam 0.390" lift. I had an old MSD ignition box on it for years. It failed and I didn't have the money to replace it. Just put a Napa replacement Chrysler ignition box on it. It still starts the same, idles the same, mileage has not changed and WOT is still mint.
They are mainly for wide duration cams which idle like ****. It keeps throwing sparks for the entire ignition stroke and it's a got a healthy, powerful spark for high cylinder pressure.
