Got a flat on the highway, how do I complain?
There was this big chunk of metal or something that I ran over on the way home from work. I told my mom about it and she mentioned something about possibly getting reimbursed by the county I got the flat in. Something around them not keep the roads clean. Years ago a rock broke her windshield before and the county paid her $50.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

The state does have a duty to maintain roads, but making a case out of this would be quite difficult for something petty, like a rock. Most area just have a nominal amount that they will almost handout just to get rid of you. This brings up the a similar topic, dump trucks and their signs that say "not responsible for objects out of the vehicle or broken windshields or something" - that is TOTAL BS. If that happens to you, get his plate, company number etc and get that company to pay for the damage. Bear in mind you will have to be able to distinguish an object that fellow out from an object that was kick up off the road.
