Default Help: Widest tire for 1995 Cobra R rim...

I have a 96' Mustang GT with 17x10.5 rear 1995 Cobra R rims on back and was needing help figuring out how to determine the widest tire that can fit.

I first got these rims from a guy with some pretty wide tires already on them and eventually they needed replaced so I bought Nitto Extreme 555 but they were not as wide. Now it's time for new shoes and am asking for some help. Thanks.

Well what size do you have now? For that size wheel, 315/35r17 is a pretty popular tire, but you can fit all the way up to a 350 wide

Thats why I say can.. lol

My 17x10.5s rubbed on the pass side wheel before my panhard bar.. the WHEEL did. Then I got rid of the quads too

My friend works at tire pros and a customer just swapped a pair of 350/30/17 Kumho road racing tires for a different set and I could pick those up for $50.. practically brand new but so are my 315s

315/35r17 Huh? And maybe 350's. I'll look into those suggestion and see what happens.

The tires I have on now are 255/50/17 Nitto Extreme 555 and have a taller side wall, abviously. I don't remember seeing the quad shocks still on.

Thanks for the posts. I appreciate it.

yeah 315s are a good choice for 10.5" rims, they'll look mint.

This is the best picture I have of the tires I have on now.

This is the best picture I have of the width of tire that came on the rim. (Don't know the size)

a 255 on a 10.5" rim? thats way too skinny IMO. A 255 tire is a good size for a 9" rim. I just replaced the tires on my 17x9 cobras with 275/40-17 and i think they look great. I would go with something at least 315 wide though.
