'07 s197 500hp whipple supercharger belt failure
Have an 07 with a whipple 11psi 500 hp sc. Have less than 5k on the sc install and the Gates belt supplied just failed longitudinally (parallel to the length of the belt).
Wondering if anyone else has seen a similar failure. Is it a known and/or common problem. No real harm done. Just a dimple to the hood. Fortunately half of the belt remained intact on the pulleys.
Any insights would be appreciated.

My gates belt on my procharger setup failed after a few months. I went to Advanced Auto and bought a replacement = to my gates and I notice that this one is failing too. Also, sometimes when I get into the boost in 1st and 2nd, my belt likes to jump off my AC pulley by one groove. When that happens, the outer edge of the belt starts getting frayed.

Thanks for the information. I posted this to another forum and it seems as though my problem is a bent belt tensioner rather than the belt. Was able to get another Gates belt from Whipple and the Local BO Dealership installed it. Looks like a replacement tensioner will be installed as well.
Though your procharger is obviously a different application, it's still belt driven and perhaps you may be experiencing a similar problem.

Did a oil change today. I took my unit off to check out the pulleys and clean it up a bit. I noticed my factory belt tentioner was shot. When I got into the boost, my belt would jump a groove on the AC pulley and squeel very loud. I found out that the squeeling was comming from the belt tentioner. It was gouging into my timing cover. The only place around that had one was Pep boys. It was different from my factory one so I had to customize it to get it so it would hit my supercharger bracket. What a PITA.
