I found a video. It breaks it down barney style for you. It's for a 2 wheel drive truck but same exact principle.http://www.expertvillage.com/video/7...-press-out.htm

Question I see in that pick you posted the hub and the lower control arm look like they are attached and the hub looks like its detached from the strut(shock). Is that what you ment by not being able to remove the ball joint from the control arm? If so than reattach the hub to the strut and sprya some PB blaster onto the ball joint. let it soak for about 15 min. come back and put on the nut on the ball joint but do not screw it on all the way. than hit the top of the nut with a 10lb sledge.

just noticed you were hitin the ball joint already and crushed the threads. just do the same as i mentioned above with out hte nut on it. also bang the bottom area a few times where the ball joint goes into the hub before ya hit the thread area of the ball joint. the vibration should help loosten it up a little.

they should also have a ...think its called a ball joint fork at part a parts store. its usualy made from aluminum and has 2 prongs at teh end that the ball jont should beable to fit inbetween. but again ya gonna need to put that hub back to teh strut. I dont see why ya cant do that.

do you have the jack under the control arm? thats what it looks like in the first pic. if thats the case you wont be able to move the spindle off the ball joint stud. what you need to do is let the control arm hang free, bolt the strut back up and smack the arm with a good size hammer.this should jar the ball joint loose from the spindle

also: i see you have the tie rod still connected. if the stud is spinning with the tie rod you'll need a large pry par or whats call a pickle fork (ball joint fork) which is a 2 prong tool that gets driven between two pieces to seperate them. you can use a long pry bar, pry down hard agianst the tie rod as close to knuckle (spindle) as possible and use socket to turn nut. this should hold stud, if not try driving the pickle fork in with a hammer and then turning nut. if the nut isnt the problem, the tie rod is just stuck to the spindle strike the spindle hard right where the tie rod passes thru. dont worry you wont damage anything.

I thought I had to use the jack to keep the spring from popping out?

It's your preference if you want to lower the control arm or leave it up on the jack. If you lower it be careful spring could shoot out and really do some damage to you or the car.

slowly let it down till it is hanging free. if u dont have lowering springs its not gonna pop out. then you can use a pry bar to lower it further
