Rim sizes on the 2010 Camaro
Ok, so there are probably tons of threads on this already but none based off of what I want to discuss with all of my autocross and track friends in this section of the forum.
I went to a local Chevy dealership by my house and took a walk around one of the 2010 Camaros. Of course I had a few questions for the salesman that came out to see me. Now I autocross my car in stock class, meaning I have to run a stock size rim for tires. So I can run a 17x8 or 18x8.5 according to the rules, once in a prepared class you can run whatever you want. Stock class autocross is "supposed" to be the cheapest form of racing and easiest of entry (I am not trying to start a debate on this subject, please just follow along). From what I have been able to find out the 2010 Camaro comes with 20" staggered wheels, 20x8 front and 20x9 rear.
I see that as a pretty big issue. The staggered size isn’t as big an issue as the 20" rims. Staggered size 8 or 9 width rims and be solved with similar size tires, but R-Comp tires don't come in a 20" size. Well I guess they do but the cost of them are so high I cannot see anyone locally wanting buy race tires for that size rim.
I know not everyone is into being super competitive but for me competition is something that drives me to make myself better. This is just an observation on my end, I don’t know if anyone else has looked at the new camaro.
What do you think? Opinions?

Given that wheel width is such an important issue in stock class autocross, I'd say the new Camaro is going to have some issues. There have been plenty of magazine slalom comparos against the 2010 Mustang and it's not looking good for the Camaro. Additionally, if you think the Mustang is heavy, look at the curb weight of a V8 Camaro! Add that to the max. 8" front wheel width and it would be tough to be competitive.
My $.02: just about any "street" version muscle car will have difficulty competing with the Shelby GT. The Shelby GT is a good overall package for F stock (proven for the last couple of years).

Thank you so much for your input! :/
Yeah so that is the size rim you would have to run on the V6, the V8s will have to be on a 20" rim.
Agreed, weight has always been an issue for any "pony" car. But yeah that new Camaro is just a big car. I always love to read the comparisons but Ive been on to say prove it on the track then I will believe it.
