Anyone know how to replace this Part??

This is the passenger side steering rod at the ball joint The ball joint is the problem it's worn out with excessive play plus there was a piece of plastic protruding out of it, this caused my front passenger wheel to wobble and break all my wheel studs.

So how do I remove this part? It seems that there is some kind of special tool because it's almost impossible to get a clamp on there to twist it off.

Any help guys

Go to the junkyard and grab an entire steering rack

Yep, just get a new rack.

Thanks guys but I finally got my answer, word is they have a tool at Advanced AutoParts that takes it off $49.95 to rent. I'm gonna head over to the U-Pull It yard with it and try and find a 2000+ Taurus with a passenger side inner rod.

Price out a rebuilt long rack (complete with inners included) before you by just and inner or both inner or junk from a used car, which is probably worn too.

I'm not gonna keep the car for too long I'm selling it soon, I can't stand this car from the first time I got it nothing but problems. I went through a crazy journey replacing the bad tranny then had bad lower control arm bushings, oil leaks and gaskets just a whole lot of money had to be spent just to maintain this car. It was great when I got then one problem after the other and I only drive about avg of 4 miles a day so I'm in the process of trying to get things in order before I sell it.

I'm definitely not gonna replace the entire rack that's gonna be costly I know a rebuilt one gotta be atleast $100 then I gotta put it in and from the looks of it it doesn't look like a easy part to replace. It's cramped as hell under there I bet I'm gonna have to drop the entire sub frame just to get to it just like the tranny. Man I hated when the mechanic told me he had to drop the entire sub frame just to swap out the tranny that was real expensive.

So yup I'm gonna head over to U-Pull It and use the tool to take off the rod it'll probably only cost me about $4 dollars for the rod. And it's really easy to do from the looks of it. Plus the 49.95 tool is free as long as I make sure not to damage it and bring it back.

(But I sure did love my 95 5.0 Mustang so much fun:icon_headbang:)

Just price it out before you make a final decision. Inners and not cheap, probably 20-40 EACH and require a special tool to remove and install.

Complete racks come WITH 2 inners and are a relative bargain at usually a hair over $100.

Bare minimum or the smart choice.

Another time to consider ONLY the one inner is if it failed on a relatively new car. Since the other side is probably still good.
