High Idle on Mustang II

High Idle on Mustang II
Hey there,
First post. I bought a 1978 Mustang II. It runs. Its rough on the exterior but the interior is in great condition. I've got some car repair knowledge, but overall I'm still a beginner.
Anyway, when I start it up, the engine kind of "Jumps" a good bit. The vibrations arent too bad, but it does raise up about an inch or so. When I turn it off, it kinda shakes a bit as it settles back down. Motor mounts?
The bigger issue is, it idles around 2000 RPM. When I put it in reverse or drive, the RPM's lower back down to a more reasonable level. I'm not sure if the engine in it is the original, the guy I bought it from said that the previous owner had possibly swapped in an engine from a ford tempo. Its a 4 cylinder engine.
If anyone could help me figure out how to get the shaking gone and the idle speed down, I'd be thrilled. I'm glad I've got a mustang!

Phew.... an old Mustang II- don't get many of those on here. I'm not sure too many survived to be honest.
Anyway. If the motor torques severely- motor mounts could be the problem. You can rev it up in neutral and watch how much it moves. If they are the original mounts- chances are high that they are worn or broken.
As far as the idle goes- 2000 rpm, once it's warm, is too high. Please let me know what type of fuel system in on your car because I believe it's carburated, but I'm not sure if it's electronically assisted.
