Default Insurance dropping expensive cars?

Well, my mom paid her insurance today and saw a fee at the bottom of the insurance bill. It was for $40, under the Surcharges category. My mom called her agent and she said they are charging high performance cars a surcharge, depending on the type of car. She also said insurance company's ( not sure if nationwide or Florida only ) are dropping high performance cars, such as Mercedes, Ferrari's and other higher performance cars.

edit; mostly non-American cars

thats just rediculous to charge a surcharge ontop of what your already paying the rate you get should already have accounted for the fact that its a high performance car

You need a better insurance company.

I dont pay no surcharge, and never have another car i have insured in the past with this same company was a MB 190E 2.5 Cosworth. I would start calling around for a new agent/company right quick.

no surcharge fee here. Why would they drop high performance car? You would think they make the most money off of them.

Yeah. My moms agent is gonna try to get it removed from our bill. But I think they are dropping them because they can't afford to pay for one if they crash or something - My opinion.

Thats not how insurance works.

And I'd switch companies ASAP. I've never had a problem like that with Geico.

My insurance actually went down when I traded my 2004 Hyundai Elantra for my Mustang. Go figure :-) Your mom is being screwed!

USAA FTW!
