Clunking/knocking sound when coasting in 1st or 2nd gear at around 800 rpms
Hi,
I am a Noob to mustangs and this forum, but I always wanted a mustang. I finally got a 96 Mustang Cobra and found out some issues while driving it. Well, I am hearing a clunking or knocking sound which seems to be coming from around the center or underneath the passenger seat. Well, I notice it when after driving for 5 minutes (until warm), I will be coasting across the parking lot with the car in first or second gear and my foot of the gas pedal and I would notice a 1 second knocking from around under the passenger seat. The car would be at 800 rpms when I would here it. Any ideas on what it might be! I would appreciate any help!

Do you mean when you suddenly let off the gas it makes a clunking sound? or while its rolling at idle there will be sudden clunking?
IF its when you suddenly let off it might have to do with the driveshaft and/or backlash in the diff.

Thats what I thought at first because I had the rear diff replaced and the mechanics rechecked the u-joints, drive shaft, and back-lash.
The clunking happens after letting off the gas and keeps going up until I speed up. In other words it will clunk as it is rolling and keep going as long as my foot is off the gas on 1st gear. Thanks for the advise.
