Default Parking brake loose?

Hi,
I just bought a 2003 GT...the parking brake has some side to side give. Is this normal? I've never had a car, or mustang, that had this. Is there maybe a bracket that should hold it from doing this?

Thanks!

Side-to-side would have to be in the mount. Pull the center console and see if the mount itself is loose, or if the handle in the mount is loose, and go from there.

Thank you, that's what I was hoping. I attempted to remove the console during my lunch break...didn't have the right tools on hand (socket). It'll have to wait till I get home. At least I know it is not normal...it didn't feel right in the first place.

Also depends on what you mean by 'some give'? Also, if the parking brake is engaging, I wouldn't worry about it too much; unless you can see and easily fix it.

well, the parking break will move horizontally a good inch to each side...not normal. It still engages and holds the car, so I would like to think it's what you say, maybe just a loose bracket. I will find out tonight
