Default 96 V-6 to 5.0 Swap Help please

Hello,

I am a new member, registered today. I own a 96, V6, 3.8 and am looking to purchase a friends 5.0 which was wrecked but the engine is still in good cond.

His car is a 93'. I am wanting any information that you can help me on this. I intend on keeping my tranny (AOD) for now, it was just rebuilt. The rear was too, but it is a 7.5 and I will keep his 8.8. What I am more concerned with is if there will be any kind of modifications required, or whether I will ahve to change anything like my braking system, suspension, or anything like that.

Should I rebuild the engine now? or do I just swap it out and worry about it later?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like other members give everyone more than half a day to respond to a question without getting pissy also...

You'll need all the wiring harnesses, the computer..etc. If you don't need your car up and running in 2 days then everything can work. It'll bolt up to your tranny just fine too. It'll just consume time and the wiring will be alittle tricky.

Haha, I used the 2 days as a figure of speech. I'd say it would be a good month long of weekend work, unless he doesn't have to work and can spend all his time doing the work on his car.

Just some morein case the other 5.0 owners have anything to add -

Ibelieve that the AOD trannys are the same. But this is where you get really harry. Your going to be having to go back and fourth between 5.0 engine and 3.8 hookups, and also between94-95 GTs and 96-98 GTs, andengine totranny torear end, and so on and so fourth. Its going to take some work to find out what exactly needs to be changed; the smallest thigns can cause big problems in this type of transition, however not that big of a deal if you're dedicated. You shouldcheck to seeif the AOD is coherent, meaning if the AOD that went into the 95 5.0 stang, is the same that went into the 96 4.6 stang, as well as the 96 3.8 stang. If they are all the same, then you have no worries. Which actually might be the case. But in terms of 5 speeds, I'm positive that the trannys are different (T45 and T5). Be sure you're getting everything you need from the guy in terms of electronics and stuff; and also when you buy performance stuff, it should work out fine that you buy for a 94-95 5.0, but check to be sure. Hope this helped, good luck.

Dan,

Thanks man, and yeah I guess you are correct in your deductions. LOL I might be a little impatient, I just sort of thought I would get answers right away. As far as the PMS, what is that?

As far as you are aware, is there any chance that the dual exhaust set up on his car will also fit? Or should I go ahead and get a new setup?

And thanks again man
