For your son, how old are we talking about and how mature would you say he is? even with the 05 he can get into trouble, but the v8 will get him in trouble a lot faster. I'd check insurance price unless price doesn't matter.

Yeah insurance prices are a priority here.
If you were buying it, I'd suggest the V8. But since it's your son, get the less powerful V6, less likely for him to get into trouble that way.

the v6 still isnt a weak car, but probably a little wiser decision than the gt depending on his maturity, driving habits, and driving experience. insurance prices could also greatly differ. and FYI, when i was 16 and had my first mustang insurance was rediculous.

Well thanks again for the input.

Bought the GT.
Insurance is a little more and if anyone is deserves this car it's my son.

Straight A's in AP classes. Plays football and wouldn't dare break a rule much less a law lol

Haha sounds like a good kid, he probably won't do anything too stupid in that car

Take him out and teach him how to handle it in extremes. One day he will be in the wrong gear and hit it too hard or in the rain etc... not if, when... the difference will be if knows how to react properly and has experience controlling it. Take him out do some burnouts, doughnuts hit it in the rain, etc. I speak from experience

its not exactly a rocket, i woulnt pit it against any other similar car with 4 or even 6. even the 04 gt at what 260 hp, isnt exactly overly powerful either. im not hating here but the op isnt exactly teaching his kid how to drive a sprint car. but good choice on the GT

Um, for your son, I'd get the '05 V6.

for you or me no, but you seem to be forgetting the fact its for a 16 year old for his first car. zero driving experience plus cars that can go fast = trouble.

Good choice. And it doesn't matter what you get 6 or 8, if your kid wants to get into trouble he will, so why not get the V8. I had a v6 ford pos and I would get it over 100mph, it was nothing special, I just enjoyed running the other big crown vics and grand marquis.

If he is 16, biggest thing is to teach him to respect the car, then also to buckle up. These things aren't wicked fast, but in stock trim, he should be able to hit 100mph in the quarter which isn't too shabby in my book.

If he feels the need for speed, take him to a local drag strip, I get that need outta me every friday night lol, keeps me outta trouble on the street.
