Should I invest in project car?

Should I invest in project car?
We found a 94 v6 selling for $1,000 in the paper this morning. Looked at it and knew it would need some major work. It was an automatic convertible with 152,000 miles.
From examining the car and just idling the vehicle, we concluded these items would have to be done: new exhaust system, possibly needs a rebuilt engine because it ran rough (some shaking) due to some previous headgasket work done incorrectly, replace right front passenger panel, needs new convertible top, front headlights badly oxidized so both need replacing, and new wiper blades.
My daughter, Crystal, wants to get a project car and do most of the stuff herself. My instincts say this is probably way over our heads. My husband likes the car and wouldn't mind working on it if we had a place to put it. A friend who's a mechanic says to pass because all the stuff needed to replace it would be more than the initial investment.
Is the experience gained rebuilding it worth more than the cost to fix it?

No way....Thats not worth it,the parts for all that will be over 4,000.You could get a nice 94-98 SN 95 for a couple grand more.Just cause it runs rough thou doesnt mean it needs an engine,it could be as simple as a plug or wire that is bad.The tops are very expensive to replace and if it does neeed amotor thats a couple grand there alone.Thats a serious project for someone whos just starting out working on cars so I would stray away from that project.
