Default Convertible Up/Down w/out Parking Break?

Hey guys - simple question.

I just picked up an 02 Stang convertible, but I hate that you have to have the parking brake on to put the top up and down. Is there anywy to bypass this (without the use of a $50 module)?

Thanks!

And yes, I just noticed I typed 'parking break' in the thread title. Dumbass attack.

Yeah I got the same car & top. I guess the parking brake thing was to try & stop people from working the top while the car is in motion, and you just KNOW there would be plenty of guys trying to drop the top @ 30mph.

If U want to disable it, dig into the center console wiring and bypass the wire from the switch to the brake..

Still trying to find my way around this site. Are there wire diagrams posted anywhere? Knowing which wire I need to play with would help a lot. haha

Remove your center console and expose your parking brake assembly...on the side of the parking brake you will find a little switch...when you pull thge handle it allows a connection to be made or broke, cant remember which one tho. There will be 2 wires going to this little switch, cut them both and tie them together...this will keep the circuit connected at all times. The only downside, is the the brake light will always display on your panel. If you dont like that you could add a toggle switch to the wires, you'll have to use more wire, and mount the switch some where convient for you. So whenever you want to put your top down, just flip the switch, and its active.

Sounds simple enough. Might even just take out the parking brake bulb in the dash if that's the case.

Thanks!
