Convince a 2002 Z28 owner to become a mustang guy

drive one and see how you like it. f-body's and mustangs are COMPLETELY different cars. GT's dont get crap power from boltons compared to your LS1. however, if running a 13.4 is all your cared about a bolton GT with suspension mods and tires will run 12's. if you have someone willing to buy your car for 11 grand you can easily find a cobra or mach1 for that price and you will absolutely have no trouble hitting 12's with one of those and some boltons. hell i think you can even dip into the 11's on slicks with full boltons.
i love the way the mustang feels from the drivers seat. i test drove a few F body's when i was wanting to trade my car in for one a couple years ago, and honestly i did not feel comfortable on the inside. MUCH quicker than the mustang in stock form yes, but overall the way i felt driving the car just didnt feel right. the interior is also hideous and looks extremely dated even on the 02's...like VERY dated. the interior on my sisters old 1999 grand am is nicer than an F body interior. the mustangs with the all black interior aren't that much better to look at (it does look much more appropriate for the time frame as far as the buttons and guages and such go), but i have the 3 tone interior and its not too bad.
go test drive you a cobra or a mach 1 tomorrow and see how you like it. your a big boy and you can decide what you feel comfortable driving and thats the more important factor. a bolton cobra (even the 96-98) will have no trouble comparing to your 13.4 time slip though and that seems to be your main concern.

ah there you go mu7 really struck something I forgot...I ran a 13.4 in my z28 however the only reason I am not going much much faster at the track is because like I said I am a college student and do not have cash. whatever car I buy is going to be but in a garage, driven every so often...more in the summer, and as soon as I get money. modded like crazy! One of the biggest things I am taking into consideration is the POTENTIAL for serious power cheap.
Being an f-body guy I know that I can put 500hp to my wheels with an ls6 intake manifold(came factory in 02 so already got it) 5.3l heads, cam, and headers...thats it haha. so I am not gonna get a gt for the fact that the sohc motor just doesnt seem to have the same potential without having to spend way more money and do way more mods.
Not that I mind it in the long run but just trying to be efficient with my mod money. understand?

also I'd like to add. I drove an 05 gt a couple years back. before I got my f-body. and it was just weird...but kinda in a good way.
I remember feeling like I was sitting higher up which was good for visibility but it didnt feel as planted as an f-body. and when I mashed the gas is way just a totally different feeling.
has anyone here drove an 01 cobra or 03-04 mach 1 AND an 05ish gt? That could compare how they drive/feel

So your trying to dump a Z28 for a Ford thats not younger then 2005 ouch. The Z28 is the better car of those years but has a few draw backs. But you know those already. I say if this was like trying to get a 1994 SVT 5.0 Cobra with low miles then ya but this no. you already spent the money to get that Z28 just hold it unless rust has gotten to it.

haha yeah that is what I am most likely going to end up doing. noone is giving me a good enough reason to make the switch...
maybe I should get my ford experience by just waiting till spring and trading my blazer for a fox 5.0 and go from there...

these earlier years didn't have the nice 4v 281CID engines. I think those were 2002-2004? and most who have one are going to be keeping them. Your better off just getting a cam for that LS1 should have many options still I hope. Long time since I knew anyone with a LS1. Those engines followed the old school rules. Power at low RPMs and everywhere unlike fords n/a small blocks but those with Ford crate engines and a supercharger heads look out 700HP is easy but the cost is just crazy.

You'll be hard pressed to trade UP from an LS1 unless you buy a used Mustang that's been modded, but that can be hit or miss. A 2011 5.0 would definitely outperform your current ride, but you'd need $20k+ to make up the difference after you sell your car.
They each have advantages and disadvantages. Generally speaking though, given the same size engine Ford vs Chevy and the same operational rpm range, the Ford will make more power, but cost more money(SBF vs SBC anyway). The LS is an exceptionally well sorted powerplant though.
You could try to get a used S197 and throw some mods on it to get the same performance as the Z28, or buy an 03/04 Cobra used. The supercharged Cobra would be an excellent trade up, and you may be able to find one in decent shape in your price range after selling your Camaro.

Yeah dude the SOHC ones make 260hp HOWEVER the 99-01 cobra makes 325hp basically 3 diff tunes of 4.6....u got the GT 260hp, mach 1 305hp, cobra 325hp. LS1 make about 340hp so it up to you. Plus Ford Modular engines react better to forced induction, you get more hp per liter again for the same psi on Fords.
