I have a 88 GT with 115K on the stock engine and transmission. The shifting is fine when you are barely on the gas, not romping but steady even gas. When slowly moving to the speed limit though it shifts hard into the next gear and sometimes strains trying to get to the next. I have rode in a 99 Beetle that does the same thing, kinda slamming into the gears on its on since its an automatic.

Any thoughts as to what this is? Is the transmission going out? slipping? an easy fix.. maybe a part in the transmission, etc... Keep in mind I am a banker, not a mechanic. So i only know laymans terms...

check ur fluids...my dads truck does this some times im not sure why maybe over time they just start to wear down, torque converter or somethin i dunno anything about autos....

QUIK WHERE ARE YOU!!!! lol, my brother in law's Saturn does that, just the tranny going to ****. Now if you bang through every gear hard you've probably got a shift kit.

i have only had it 3 weeks... i will add fluids or replace all transmission fluids... another site guy told me about a throttle valve cable??? so i thoght i would check into that too...

Did you replace it with the right fluid?

It don't sound like it, but it might be the T.V. cable, do a search on adjusting the TV cable.

defintly check the fluid because my car i have now didn't have any in the transmission for a while and it shifted hard. i don't know how long it went without any transmission fluid but i never checked from the time i got it until like a month ago and i had it for lets say 3 months. lol its bad i know. but it was a 400 car. i really just want a nice car thats cheap lol.

I will check and fill/replace the fluid AND check into the cable thing... I guess for the fluids I will get some decent transmission fluid... thanks for all the thoughts...
