Won't turn over

I am having trouble getting my 91 5 spd to turn over. All I get is clicking. Battery is fully charged. Cables are new and tight. I almost want to say it is the starter. Can you jump the terminals on the solenoid like the old school solenoids? It looks different then the old trusty ones used from way back until the 80s.

You could try it with a screw driver....holding it sideways.....I wouldn't!

Would a remote starter be a better way to tell if it is the starter or solenoid. I really don't want to pull the starter only to find out it is the solenoid. I suck at electrical troubleshooting.

Thanks. I will try this. I guess if that does not work, I am gonna have to pull the starter.

Good luck! Let us know if it was the starter or coil.

worked on a 64 buick car today at my shop with same problem if your getting the starter to click and enage the usally mean that the starter is good it just your not getting good amps at the starter

did u do a load test on the battery not the same as a voltage check
could be the battery does not have enough amp to kick over the engine

check your grounds or run a new ground to the starter that help alot on starting

jump the silenoid with a remote start tool can get at your local parts store

same thing happened to me...Turned out to be the battery..I needed a jump start to get her going in my 03 lincoln Aviator

How do you know the battery is fully charged? Pep boys told me my battery was fine and charged but it still would give me problems starting and I'd get a clicking sound from the starter. Replaced the battery and it's been clear sailing ever since

Thanks for the advice from everyone. It was the BATTERY AFTER ALL!!!!! That 13 volts shot to nothing as soon as I hit the starter. Thank Goodness it was under warranty. I feel a little stupid regardless. Now if I can only find out why there is a slight hesitation when I give her gas.
