i had looked at these before they went on sale on american muscle, but i stopped looking because i really didnt feel like i knew exactly what it did. could someone explain it to me? i tried to search for it on the site to make sure someone didnt already make a thread like this but i couldnt find one

I installed this over a year ago, and it's a great replacement for the stock auto shift lever. It lets you manually shift gears quickly, without the sloppy feel of the stock auto shifter. It's very well made, machined metal, compared to the cheap plastic stock lever. There are a few other threads in the S197 section, including an outstanding step-by-step instruction with photos, which really helped me during the install. There's also a YouTube video showing how it works.
You may find better advice in the S197 sections, as opposed to this General Tech section. Notice the two members who responded earlier don't even have the car this shifter was designed for. Just food for thought. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any other questions.
