Default sick of it

sick of not hooking on the street or track. i have a nitto drag radial. im sure its not the best tire in the world but im considering switching to a slick. im sure a slick is harder to control at high speeds on the street but will a slick hook better than the best drag radial out there on the street?

Slicks on the street are a big no-no! Besides the fact they aren't legal for street use in all 50 states, you won't get any kind of advantage out of them on highway grade, unprepped, asphalt or concrete. Drag radials are a trade off for the street, and my experience has been the best with a set of Mickey Thompson ET Street drag radials in 315/35/17 @22psi. They will flat hook up on just about any street, unless the outside temperature gets much below 50 degrees.

It would be nice what tire and size you have so we can help advise you . Cause 562 torque would break a 275 but not a 315 on the back.

P.s your sig is funny. It's high hp, brake boosting that wheel races. =)

1) Don't try to launch on the street. First off it's just dumb. Streets are heated or prepped for "hooking" like you are trying to do. It's not a race track, you're not a race car driver. Why waste time?

2) It's not your tire, it's your suspension and driving ability. True there are better 'hooking' tires that the Nitto, but adjust the other stuff first. At the track, get your tires warm (properly heat them slowly, not just mega smokey burnouts like a rookie). Get your psi in a good sweet spot for your own style of launching (start at 20 and drop 1 or 2 psi until you get a good 60 ft out of them.

What suspension are you running under the car? What are your current 60 ft times? What RPM are you launching at?

This is misinformation. It's not the size of the tire that will gain traction it's the softer compound. A sticky tire will only do so much withoput a proper set up suspension.

is this on your '88 LX?

Let's hear more about the combo. I'm sure I can make your car dead hook on the street. It's only money.

^^^^^ What he said...

With a C-4 in a fox body, the right suspension setup is definately attainable. My buds drag radial car went a 5.04@148 in the 1/8th with a 1.34 60ft on a 275/60/15 drag radial. It CAN be done, you just have to work at it.

But you are on the right track by ditching the nittos IMO.

Funny thing happens to cars when you want them to hook...the more $100 dollar bills you put into them, the harder they hook...

Springs/shocks/gears/tire compound and width, etc

Hey, if all else fails...
