Rear main seal leak or oil pan leak or both?

Rear main seal leak or oil pan leak or both?
When a rear main seal starts to leak, the spinning crank shaft would spray oil all over the inside of the bell housing including on the flywheel & torque converter, correct?
I have at least one leak on my wifey's mustang coming from the oil pan near the starter, but I'm trying to figure out if I may also have a rear main seal leak. The bottom of the bell housing is covered in engine oil and the oil has sprayed back to cover the front of the tranny oil pan. But when I pop the rubber inspection cover on the bell housing the flywheel & torque converter are dry. Can I assume that the rear main seal is OK?
Thanks alot...
