I made the mistake of assuming '87 GT struts would fit my '86 GT; they don't, the '86 spindle is almost 1/4" too thick where the strut bolts on. So..looks like I have to swap spindles since I can't take the struts back.

Are there any issues in swapping '87-93 GT/LX 5.0 spindles onto a '86 GT?

How about '87 Thunderbird Turbocoupe spindles? Anyone know if they're the same as '87 Mustang (or would work)? I have a dead Turbocoupe in the back yard...


Also, I bought a set of those 17x9 4 lug Cobra R replicas, with 5.78" backspacing. They hit the front strut, just a little, but I'm swapping to coil overs, so I forsee this being a major issue. Anyone else run this wheel with coil overs? Spacers are just about the only way out?


And I thought I'd have it back on the road in one day...[>:]

well i know that you can put the thunderbird spindles on your car. i don't know much more than that, if you want check out this site, it tells you how to swap some parts from the 2.3T to your mustang which might be nice http://www.ford23.com/stinger/TechMain.html just look for the front disk brake swap.
