Default Play in steering wheel

There is slight play in my 88 lx steering wheel. The play is def comming from around the wheel itself. It there a steering wheel nut under the wheel like other cars? Possibly this could b loose.

Is it a tilt column? If so, the play may be coming from the hardware holding the tilt assembly together.

There are alot of components in the steering system that can cause this problem. Wiggle the steering wheel back & forth and look at what is moving and what is not. The problem is at the first joint where one side rotates and the other does not. It could be the steering column, could be the intermediate shaft rag joint, or inner/outer tie rod(s). Good luck...

Also good advice. You have to determine is that area of the column is jumping around? Or do you just have play farther down the line
