I have a 1st gear, drive and over drive automatic mustang, how do yall recommend using them for racing?</P>

A 5 speed. But Since you have anautoget and aftermarket shifter ad sart in 1st and shift manually

Leaving it in drive will always be faster, that's if you get a shift kit and change the shift points. <IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">

what exactly is a shift kit? i hear of them constantly but i still dont really know...<IMG src=smileys/smiley9.gif border="0">

Its a combination electronic and mechanical mechanism that makes your AOD shift into gears faster than stock. A little rough when just drivin around, but wonders when you're racing.

B.S. You have an aod trans and they are weak stock, but bullet proof when modded. Take it to a performance tranny shop and have them install a lentech manual valve body, a beefed up one piece input shaft and a kevlar od band. There is nothing electronic on the aod trans, and shifting in drive occurs at about 2400rpm. With the manual valve body, you can hold the shift point up to the red line in first, second, and so on. Who in the hell shifts at 2400rpm, nowhere near the optimum rpm's for torque or hp. If you are going to stay stock on the motor, I would suggest at least a 2000rpm stall converter also. I have a stock aod that is lightly modified, and I've been doing the 1-2-1 shuffle for years without a problem. But that's a different story.
