96 mustang clunking noise

A relitve of mine has '96 mustang. It has an automatic trans., a 3.8 V6, and 13000 miles. About 2 months ago it started making this awful clunking noise when you accelerated. It doesnt make this noise at idle or while coasting. My relitve has been putting regular (87 octane) gas in it and it could be lack of octane, but i doubt it. Any ideas on what this noise is? Is it something that can be fixed at home? let me know.

At a shop? It could run 30-60 bucks for the mounts and maybe 1-2 hours of labor...going rate an hour here is $60..
