Grinding/Scraping Noise on Startup (04 Mach 1)
ok my first post. Hope this is the correct section.
My 2004 Mach 1 (5 speed) makes a loud grinding/scraping noise that dissipates with time (maybe 10 minutes) after it's started up. The pitch varies but it's noticeable and noisy. I can depress the clutch and it modifies the sound somewhat (eases it a bit).
Took it to a dealer who didn't want to deal with it citing it's age and the fact that I couldn't leave it very long (my only car). Then, took to another dealer who told me I needed a new transmission
I don't think I need a new transmission but i'm not certain. Any advice appreciated. Might take it to Aamco for a second opinion.
It has no other issues, shifts fine, no hesitating or anything suggesting the tranny is failing. Also, in case you can't tell, i'm not exactly mr. fix it. but I can find things out which is why I am here. Thanks in advance.

If you drive it, does the sound continue?
Could be the starter gear is not going back into the starter and is dragging/banging against the flywheel ring-gear.
Never heard of a dealer that doesn't want to work on a car...especially one that is well under 15 or 20 years old. Unless of course you told them to figure it out on the spot and didn't want to pay for a diagnostic? Then, you're just wasting their time by trying to pick their brains.
