Default Shifting an Automatic

Is it possible to manually shift the automatic mustangs? or is it just to lock it into a lower gear, like L on other cars. If so, is it safe?

Depends on what year you're referring to. I have an auto 2014 GT and it has sport mode under drive. You can drop down to sport mode and it will still shift automatically but in a more aggressive manner or you can hit the rocker button on the side of the shift *** and shift up or down. If you activate this, it changes into 'manual mode' and you control all the shifting via the rocker button. It's actually pretty nice and I like it a lot. I can't drive a manual due to being an above knee amputee on my right leg so this is the next best thing. I was a bit disappointed that I had to order an automatic mustang vs. the manual but after driving it, I'm quite pleased. I use the select shift all day for daily driving.
