Default Gas mileage on 13 V6 STINKS! Tire Size?

Had my 13 V6 about two weeks now. Decided to check out the MPG on the system status and it says I'm averaging 14.8 MPG? WTH! Can that be right? Mostly driving in town. Stop/Go traffic. Could it be the tire size? My 05 had 255/45/18 and I still averaged 19mpg but this one has 255/55/18. Would it make that big of a difference?

How many miles do you have on it? Auto-manual? 3.31 or 2.73 differential? Have you checked it by hand or just read the display? I get over 30 on highway trips, I can get 15 around town if I have a lot of stops, idle a lot, or race a lot. btw, my display reads 5% low, if it says 30 mpg, I'm getting 31.5. I can drive for 6 hrs at 30 mpg, and hot rod for a few turns and it will read 15 mpg-which is not possible. I'm not sure how the computer averages out the gas mileage, I think it "weights" the most recent mileage higher than older readings(more than 15 minutes). First thing I'd do is calculate it by hand.

Automatic or Manual? It [most likely is] how you are driving. Generally with a newer car you are excited and have a little heavier foot. I get 34 MPG in my 14 v6 at 65MPH & 27 @ 80 MPH. But once u have to stop completely then accelerate, your MPGs will drop a ton.

Automatic. Bought used with 39,000 miles on it. I got the info off the display. I reset after doing some highway driving and will try and check it by hand. I do have a leadfoot (you don't buy a Mustang to drive slow!) but shouldn't be any different than how I drove my 05.

Haha it sounds like normal to me, if your in constant city driving and stop and go AND lead footing it. 17 sounds about right.
Reset the average MPG while your already driving, if you have premium you can watch the "nice little average display"

With the taller tire you should get better mileage but that tire differential isn't the problem. Poor gas mileage in city only stop and go is the problem. Get it out on the highway and I bet it improves immediately.

As you said, you have a lead foot. What do you expect?

You should have bought a Fusion if you wanted fuel economy
