Default Do I need an aftermarket clutch cable

03 Gt and I'm swapping out the clutch this weekend. Got a Ford racing clutch quadrant and an SR firewall adjuster. Was looking at videos on how it all adjusts, and every video shows an aftermarket cable with a nut on the transmission end.

How can I use the stock cable and adjust it? Thanks

you can use the stock cable, the firewall adjuster provides the adjustment (thus the name). there are aftermarket cables that adjust, but there is no need if you are running the firewall adjuster. must read the instructions carefully, you will have to attach the cable to the quadrant in a specific hole if you use the firewall adjuster, and another if you use the adjustable cable. how you adjust the cable is once all installed, you take up the slack with the firewall adjuster, JUST THE SLACK, over adjustment will cause throwout bearing failure and clutch slippage

Hey 302,

As jwog stated, you can use the stock cable no problem.

That being said, I always recommend upgrading the cable while you are already messing with the setup!

The SR Performance Adjustable Clutch Cable is a fairly inexpensive cable that get's the job done no problem! Check it out!

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.

OK I will attempt it once I finally get the clutch installed. Thanks for the help Jwog!

Will,
Thanks for the suggestion but from everything I've heard, the factory cable is one of the strongest cables out there so I'm gonna keep it
