E brake adjust help
I'm having big problems with my E brake. It isn't pulling tight. Does anyone have a video on how to adjust the E brake cable on a '98? I'm guessing it'd be the same for multiple years. Couldn't find one on YouTube. Thanks!

Was your car included the parking brake recall? Check into that first. It only affected cars with manual transmissions.
I just found out about this recall myself. I was not issued a notice, because I am not the original owner of the car. But from what I've read, the recall turns the self-adjusting mechanism into a manual one. I am inclined to think that the most likely possibility is that your cables are seized. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. What do you feel when you pull the handle, and when you release it? Does the handle have full range of motion, or does it stop too low? |
I as well am not the original owner so I'm not sure if it was affected by the recall or not. I can pull the handle almost all the way up. The brake doesn't start engaging until it's almost all the way up and won't pull anymore. It's not enough to hold the car. The car will roll even on a small incline (even in gear)

Do your rear brakes engage properly while driving? If the slide pins are seized, neither the cables nor the hydraulics will operate the caliper back there.

I changed the pads all the way around and the back ones although light, showed wear.

Could be stretched cables.

I'm thinking the same thing. So how do I adjust that? Or do they just need replaced?
