Default Battery relocated in trunk....sealed box or not?

This was originally posted deep in another thread, so I am trying my luck with a new post. The battery tray is shot in the engine bay and I'm gonna relocate to the trunk of my '89 GT conv. Should I be concerned with a sealed and vented box if I'm gonna mount an Optima (sealed) battery in a billet hold-down? This will be strictly a street machine and I'm not concerned with meeting NMRA requirements.

Thanks in advance.

If you use a sealed battery like the optima, then no you don't need a sealed box, unless like you said you need meet NHRA specs.

You mean NHRA would insist you stick a SEALED battery like the Optima in a sealed box anyway>> Sounds kinda dumb..

Yes they would and even though an Optima is a sealed battery , it's just one of those things they want you to do for extra safety, and how are they to know that you will always have the Optima battery in there, it might get switched out sometime.

All this started up back when hatchback type cars got popular at the drags. If you use a rear firewall made of .032 aluminum OR .024 steel, you don't need to have a box for the battery at all.....
