Quality Fog Lamp Housings?
1995 Mustang GT, 173,000 miles
While polishing my fog lamps today, one on the lenses felt loose and came off of the housing in my hands. Inside, I saw that the silver reflective lining is completely peeling away. Upon closer inspection, I'm convinced that a previous owner must have used an aftermarket housing, because the other one is holding up just fine, and there are some details that don't match.
The LH one reads "XACTA 319-53606 SAE F 94 L DOT" on the bottom of the lens, and "TOP" at the top. Printed on the top of the housing is "04140615" and "MADE IN TAIWAN".
The RH one (the one that is falling apart) reads "RH" on the bottom of the lens, and "TOP" at the top. It has no part numbers on it.
I'm guessing that the LH one is OEM, but I'm not sure if the "MADE IN TAIWAN" stamp contradicts that. At any rate, it's holding up much better than the RH one, and I'd like to get a RH one to match it (or maybe I'll just get a pair, and keep my old LH one as a spare).
The important thing is that I avoid a poor quality replacement. Among the popular Mustang part vendors (LMR, AM, CJP, etc.), the only reviews I can find are focused on fitment and appearance. I'm more concerned about long-term quality. Anyone know where I can get my hands on a genuine Ford replacement? Or can I trust any of the aftermarket ones to hold up to daily driving?
