Default check engine light on new to me 98

Hello all,

I just added a '98 GT vert with 115K miles , all original, to replace the former '04. The check engine light just cam on after a day of ownership. Would getting an OBD reader tell me what is driving that check engine light? Any suggestion on an inexpensive obd reader?

Go to your local auto parts store, they can retrieve the code and tell you what it is.

Get the code. Don't buy anything until you research it. Most kids at the parts store have no idea what the code means or how it works.

When you get the code(s), post back here with what they are and we can go from there. Better yet, post in the 96-04 4.6 section.
