What weight is your Harmonic Balancer? There are two and while they're not interchangeable, there's nothing preventing someone from installing the wrong one on their application: A stock harmonic balancer is 50 ounces.

If you have the crank and flex plat/flywhere for it, there is a 28 ounce one.

How would I check to see which balancer is on the car? Will it be clearly marked with oz weight? Is the actual weight of the balancer 50oz?

Default Vibration issues between 4 and 4500 RPM

Pontiac 69,
It takes about one second to tell once you have the pan off. Lifting the casting numbers off the crank is the surest way of telling what weight your harmonic balancer is. If your engine is completely OEM, then it should be 50oz. If the engine has been modified, then all bets are off, and you are left with the crank casting.

Pontiac 69, all this interest in the harmonic balancer has me thinking again, yup, I know, very dangerous. If your ride is a shifter, how about that vibration coming from the clutch disc,and/ or pressure plate?

Pontiac 69, here we go again. 2M & 2MA are 28 oz imbalance, 2MAE is 50 oz. These are the casting codes that will be on your crank. Crank I.D. Nos. (302) should reflect these Casting I.D. Nos.-

2M-2MA-2MAD 28 OZ. 68/80

2MAE 50 OZ. 81/

I would leave this procedure alone, until all other options are eliminated.
