Default Steering wheel shaking but only at certain speeds

Just bought a 2010 GT with aftermarket 20” wheels. I thought the vibration of the steering wheel was tires needing to be balanced. Got them balanced and no change. When I drive 80 is smooth, but at regular speeds the wheel has a noticeable shake. It’s a manual, so I throw it into neutral and no change.

Any ideas guys? I’m new to mustangs. Is there suspension issues I should look for or maybe a bent wheel? How do I find out?

mine has a little shake too, could be the undulations in the road... might also have your alignment checked. If the toes out, it can be pulling one wheel slightly causing it...

It could be your tires. My father had a 2006 Chrysler 300C Heritage model with Goodyear tires on it from the factory and the tires were out of circumfrance, meaning they were not perfectly round. He put a new set of Michelin's on it and it went away. I now own the car and just put a set of Falken's on it about a year ago. No issues with Falken's either.

I hope it’s not tires because they’re brand new looking and really expensive. The guy put 315s on the rear and 285s up front. All on 20” wheels with some sticky tires. They look and feel ok when I check them.

Maybe an alognment is next step?

What speeds are "regular speeds"? 55-70 is usually tires, below that is normally suspension. What profile are the tires? Could be worn control arm bushings. 05-10 all take the same control arms so it's not uncommon for them to fail after about 5-6 years. Could also be tie rods.Jack the front end up. Grab the wheel at 3 and 9 oclock and push'pull back and forth Should be solid, Any play is a tie-rod issue.

Yes it’s most pronounced at 55-70. The tires are 315/35s on the back and 245/40s on the front. I’m starting to think an alignment might not be a bad idea anyway since it’s new to me... but I’ll def check the wobble and see how that does.
