Lightbulb 72 Mustang Transmission Swap Advise

My son and I restored a 72 Base Mustang. we are knowledgeable enough to be dangerous, but we have a transmission issue. Currently we have a rebuilt original stock 302, rebuilt original FMX and a 9" rear end. The tranny locked up and we are needing to replace the transmission. It is a daily driver for my son and prior to the tranny issue the RPM with the FMX in it were crazy on highway driving in N. Texas. We are seeking advice of what we need to do to to to swap this transmission out the least cost route with a 5 or 6 speed automatic. Again DAILY DRIVER..... any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

I would put an AOD in it. Likely a bolt-in, minimal rework if not, possible even the overall length would require no driveshaft alteration. imp

+1 on the AOD. A 5 or 6 speed automatic mated to a 1972 engine is going to take some serious doing but an AOD would be almost a slam dunk and accomplish what you want to.

btw, I like what you have done with the car. The mods looks good. Glad to see the hubcaps.
