Need some opinions and advise
Hey guys I need a little guidance. I want to put new shifter in so I have been doing a little research. ( 2002 GT ). First I looked at Steeda. Right on their website they state that it is abit noisey, but the performance far out weighs the noise. I don't like the sounds of that. I keep thinking about this old Stake Body I used to drive for work years ago and all the vibration and noise. I know its not a fair compairison but it just sticks in my head.
Next I checked B&M racing #45072 no mention of noise. Then I checked Roll - X speed, no mention of noise. Now I know that they aren't normally going to print a product short comming like Steeda did. I checked PRO - 5.0 no comments about noise. Lastly I checked Hurst, again no mention of noise. I always liked Hurst but don't want to dump $ 200.00 for a product that is noisy.
Any info would be appreciated, Thanks Guys
Steve

IMO the steeda is better than all of them you listed. One of the sponsers of this site sells gaskets that is supposed to help with the noise and viberation. Check them out in the sponser section Shiftergaskets.com

It's not tragically noisy. You get a SMALL amount of noise coming through the shifter because it is metal and doesn't have a million bushings like the stock shifter does. All aftermarket shifters will do this... it's normal. The noise isn't anything bad. Essentially sounds a little like your throwout bearing from outside the car, except inside... and more quiet (depending on the condition of your throwout bearing.
I hardly notice it 90% of the time. If I cup my hand around the shift **** facing myself, I'll be able to hear it, but you'll never hear it in normal driving except when you're sitting still.
Edit: Go for the Steeda.

They all have the potential to make noise. Both me and a good friend of mine have a UPR mine is fairly quiet while his makes all kinds of noise. For inexpensive go with a upr if you want the better shifter get a mgw.
