What Brand of Anti-Freeze?

What Brand of Anti-Freeze?
Next week I am going to flush out my radiator because I purchased it used a year ago and it wasn't done by us. A co-worker said to stay away from the red colored anti freeze because it clogs it up. What brand is she talking about?
I have always used Prestone in all my vehicles. Is there a better product? Are there brands that I should avoid? A friend said there is a product that last 5 years. Is that even good advice?

The cap on your radiator fill will tell you which color coolant you need. Get the stuff that is already pre mixed. Also, there is a coolant that is good for 5 years- 100,000 miles. That would be the original coolant from the factory. But after the first coolant change it will be 3 years, 50,000 after that.

Think about it... how many companies out there do you think are actually making antifreeze? Id say between 2 and 3. As long as its not some complete no name stuff from a flee market, and it has the right specs, you should be ok.

Oh yeah... and Color doesnt really have anything to do with quality. Different car companies use different colors... I think toyota and lexus use red stuff, Chrysler uses green.

The red is DexCool.. and I have seen the results. It chrystalizes, and can clog ports. I go with the new Ford version. It's like a light yellow. It's also good for 5 years. But it doesn't chrystalize.

I use new formula Prestone 50/50.....you can mix it with any color, it doesn't matter.

Pick up a coolant hydrometer. They are like $10 tops andyou can use it to figure out the freezing point of your antifreeze mix. 50/50 isnt always best. Basically, you use the little ball (like on a turkey baster) and sucjk up some or your mix from the reservior and it figures out the freezing point based on density. Good to have so you dont under or over mix your coolant.
