Default noise coming from rear end?

alright, my mustang is startin to get to that age now. i hear all kinds of noises, the rattles and such but thats mostly from the body. altho lately whenever i step on the gas from a stop i hear a "clunk?" kind of noise coming from the rear end. well i think its the rear end, thats where the noise seems to come from. its whenever i acceralate and sometimes when i just take my foot off the gas at low speeds. no idea what the noise is from and/or what to do about it. any help?

oh yea i dont know if this will help, but its a 98 v6 with just under 92,000 miles

Im no mechanic, but it might be the ring and/or pinion. It might just be worn or have a broken or damaged "tooth" (probably not the techincally correct term but I think you know what I mean)

Check your u-joints first.

If its just one clunk, it could be a u joint, but if its a rythmatic "clunk" then its probably the ring and/or pinion, no?
