Default have you heard of a power chip

Yea my friends at work keep talking about putting a chip in there car's. That would give more hp. I want more hp in my car! So I was wondering if anyone had any insight on how an if they really do work?

They are a waste in my opinion. But what they do is reprogram things like timing, shift points,a/f ratios all the things that the computer already does just with power in mind not economy.</P>

Now the good part is this sounds great on paper but the bad part is this is not a very good mod considering what you get for the money in terms of performance.Maybe having a totally custom chip would result in more horsepower but at how much extra and certainly not with a stock motor? Its really not worth it.Go with bolt ons for now you will see and feel more gains than from the chip.</P><edited><editID>TheGmKiller331</editID><editDate>37996.1182407407</editDate></edited>

You sound like me Grandmom. LOL<IMG src=smileys/smiley17.gif border="0">.</P>

Do a chip later on. Start out with the main bolt ons. Like exhaust/intkae/gears. A computer chip is a waste for know.</P>

A chip is great after you get some bolt ons. You will never see the true peak from your high performance intake and exhaust until your chipped and dyno'd. To chip a stock motor is pointless in my opinion.

They are a good idea in my opinion if you do the "combo" put a pretty good sized throttle body, high flow fuel injecters and the chip and you will notice a pretty big gain in hp. Thats just my opinion though
