I have a problem with my car... sound like the fuel pump?
Hi all!
First time poster, hoping someone could give some advice...
I have a 2000 Mustang GT, supercharged. I had the intank replaced some time back (8 months?) with a 255 unit, the maker of which escapes me. Just had a new motor and tranny put in, and now my fuel pressure jumps up and down a TON, between 20-40. Under acceleration also I get a sputtering sort of power, with the car lagging repeatedly as the RPMs go up... someone said this was the sign of a failing pump, but I just had it done! Someone else said that it could have just been a crappy aftermarket pump and I should look into an official Ford 255 intank pump?
Anyway, anyone have any knowledge they could share about this?
Thanks,
LA

RE: I have a problem with my car... sound like the fuel pump?
Howdy!
No, I have not... I dont know crap about working on my car, unfortunately... I am a complete car idiot But does this sound like something about the voltage not getting to the pump consistently and so it is functioning sporatically?
Sorry if this is a newbie question, but I am a newbie
Thanks, and happy holidays to all

if your pressure is fluctuating at the regulator(20-40) then i would believe you have an issue in the tank. voltage could be the variable as well a bad pump bad filter

Awesome, thanks for the advice Trp! My car is having what I think might be horsepower issues (see my other post, made at approx. the same time as this one) and I wonder if the two are connected...?
