Strength: Supra vs 03 Cobra
Many of you probably have read in the newest 5.0 Magazine about the strength of the block in the 03 cobra. Able to hold up to 1000hp on stock internals!! This is definately the strongest block and IMO best engine that Ford has produced since the days of the legendary 427 side oilers. The question here now becomes: is the new 03 motor, stronger than that of the TT Supra/SC300 motor used by Toyota? Might be sort of like apples and oranges if you look at # of cylinders, as well as overall construction, but in terms of strength of the stock block and internals, it's a close race. I've seen supras hold 900 hp on the block, and though a new Cobra has yet to reach that hp number, I'm almost positive that the new block is one of the strongest ever made out of engines around the globe; rivaling the likes of Ferrari in terms of build quality; which says a lot about Ford as a company, and also supports the case that this engine would make probably the best example of a racing/drag engine created in Ford's history. I'm usually more of a proponent of Italian/German design as far as engines go, but BRAVO Ford on an amazing feat.

I wasn't awarethat they would hold 1000hp on the stock internals.

Then how do you know that they'll hold 1000hp? Just asking...are you saying that there isn't a 900hp 03' Cobra, but that it is capable of holding 1000?

ide have to say its the complete opposite man. the cobra has a stronger bottum end than the supra, but the supra being an i6, the block itselfcould probablyhandle more stress than that of a v8. but regardless, ive seen documented cases of 1250rwhp on a stock bottum end supra. not sure how reliable it would be, but its been done. strictly performance on the other hand, with their 03, got 800rwhp, and over 1200rw tq. it pegged out the chassis dynos torque meter, so they dont know how much torque it actually had. one thing to consider though, on the cobra, they got those #'s with just bolts ons. im pretty sure that the supra had serious head work, including cams. bottum line. they are both killer engine stock.

Redline: I read about it in 5.0 Mag, and as BLKSTANG pointed out, the magazine achieved nearly that number, and were positive that 1000hp on a stock motor would work fine, althought they had to change the IRS rear end to an 8.8 from FRPP. I'm sure someone has done it.
Jugador: The only reason that durability and build quality would be better on a Supra is because they have been around longer to have a large base of proof. You cant compare the two in durability, because the Cobra just came out. But in terms of strength, I'll bet the Cobra edges it out just a hair. What's more interesting is the fact that the I6 should, in theory, be stronger with less moving parts, and less wear on a central crank. I'm taking the Cobra either way.
