Default Paint Protection for summer bugs

Has anyone on here had any experience with these clear vinyl paint protection kits? They basically do the same thing as the big vinyl car bra's, but without looking so bulky. Just clear vinyl cut specifically for your car that adheres, and supposedly is removable without causing any damage, but I don't see how it wouldn't leave some kind of discoloration between protected and unprotected surfaces.

They are getting very cheap on Ebay and I live in a bug prone zone and have been thinking about trying it out. Anybody had any experiences, good or bad?

Have a professional install them. It is a lot more dificult that it looks. I tried for 3 hours to get the hood piece on and never did. The areas that are flat of only have a small contour are easy.

I have had the product you are talking about on three cars (Corvette, Infiniti FX45, Lotus Elise). The material does not have uv protection so when you remove it there is no difference in paint color. I would recommend you have a pro do it unless you have great patience. On my corvette I had a pro do the larger pieces and then I did the small bits. The Elise was a factory option. Don't make the mistake of buying the static cling kits. They work but blow off and have to be redone each time you wash the car.

There is a product called Rejex that is applied like wax that makes bug removal much easier because the guts can't adhere to the paint as well. Go to corrosionx.com for more info.

Have it on mine, here is the post Paint Protection post

It's always the first thing I do to any new car I buy. If I can I try to install it before the car leaves the dealership. I couldn't tell you how many folks bring thier rides to us only a few days after purchase with more than a few chips in the paint. In fact some our clients like the local ferrari and lexus dealerships won't allow the vehicle to leave without the kit installed, if the buyer wants it.

If your looking for something to just protect from bug guts and poo, Simonize System 5 paint sealent is an awsome product. I actually use it on the paint protection film as an added protection. I think you can find some on e-bay sometimes. It is usually only avaible to dealerships
