Hello there guys and gals I was wondering about the Gas Guzzler Tax? I am thinking of buying a 4.6 litre Mustag GT but heard and read that V8 vehicles that are poor on fuel economy must pay a gas guzzler tax? Am I wrong I live in Chicago and have heard and read that the amount varies to according how sucky the miles per gallon are? Therefore I ask any one who resides in Chi town home of the world champion Chicago White Sox if they paid a gass guzzler tax?

I don't think the Mustang, V6 or GT has a Gas Guzzler Tax. It actually has good gas mileage for what it is... I did notice that the Chargers have a gas guzzling tax though.

Thanks I just got off the dealer and she said exactly the same thing. Its a smaller V8 therefore there is not gas guzzler tax. I feel sorry for the GTO boys and girls I think they have to pay an extra 3100 dollars for the 5.7 and 6.0 liters

Hey thats pretty good man sounds like a quote. The funny thing is that the performance specs are simmilar even though the Mustang is the smaller engine I beleve the 0-60 numbers are exactly alike. As well as the 1/4 mile times, and the GTO also costs like 7k more.

Yeah well, that's what happens when you buy a GM product... They only try to make it slightly better then the Ford product, but make it cost a lot more... Also... Who wants a GTO anyway? The car looks... like something my grandmother would drive... There is just... no Muscle car look to it at all.

If you were paying a gas guzzler tax, you'd know it. It's right on the window sticker. And it's alot!! Go look at a Charger SRT8.

If I remember right, the 2005 GTO's with the 5.7 and a manual trans didn't have a gas guzzler tax... the auto trans did.
I don't think it's based on engine size. It's based on MPG. Right?

No, not necessarily just MPG. It has to do with MPG when compared to passengers able to be carried. High MPG+Low passenger room=guzzler tax. Hence SUV's do not carry this tax but Gas hungry coupes (i.e. GTO, Corvette) and super hungry sedans (i.e. Charger SRT8) do!

Corvette has never had the gas guzzler tax applied to it.
