Mine's bone stock (but not for long) and it does in fact chirp going into 3rd from time to time.

I have been driving stick for about one week now in my new GT, haven't driven it hard, only chirped 3rd once, and only tried once.

WAIT WAIT WAIT.... so you guys are saying all this time i was shifting at the wrong rpm ? when racing i always shift at 6000 or 6100 havent tried less rpms than that though ..... so exactly at what rpm should i shift when racing?

and nbk13nw by saying 5700 rpm .. do u mean to make it chirp or this is the correct rpm shifting limit for a stock GT ?
regardless of what others say...i knocked more than two tenths off my track times by shifting at 6400 instead of 6200. i know this because i did multiple runs each way, and went back and forth between them. this was true with powershifting, and i would assume it would be true with regular ol' aggressive shifting. the only advantage i had by shifting below 6k when i tried it, was slightly better traction going into 2nd gear. however, the et was slower, and my trap was slower by almost 2mph compared to 6400 shifts.

it all really depends on the power band of your particular car. when you race, you want to shift so that the gear you go into's rpm is JUST passed the peak torque rpm, to maximize the use of the hp curve. there are much more detailed explanations, but i am not in a place to explain them properly.

Sleeper05 is exactly right! Ity is all dependant upon your particular vehicle. Try some different shift points in order to find what works best for you. Start our about 5500 to 5900 for the 1 - 2 shift, and then the same thing again for the 2 - 3 shift and so forth until you can see how it feels. Without a track to run and and get some data for times, distance and speed it will have to be using the "Butt-O-Meter"! Once you feel how it reacts at those points... try some new ones until your satisfied with the results...

But yes.... the shift points will make a huge difference on just how quick you are as well as your ability to chirp the tires through the gears...

I just wanted to jump in real quick, kinda off topic, but kinds on topic. I have a GT auto with slp loudmouth and frpp 4:10's and today i recieved my sct2 and programed my car. What a difference, I scream the tires into 2nd everytime and 9/10 they chirp into 3rd really hard, it totally woke the car up, amazing!

Lets keep this in perspective, bone stock Mustang GT's both '05 and '06 don't make **** for power above 5800rpm (the little air box opening is very small) so it doesn't make sense to waste time pusing it. A good CAI, tune and gas (I can't speak for people who for some reason used the 87 tune) will broaden the power band and the engine does in fact pull hard to just a tad over 6,000, shifting much higher than this N/A is a waste in my humble opinion.

For 30 years I've heard about guys who run more than a few hundred over peak and I enjoy beating them. I personally don't shift to hear a chirp, if I'm pushing it I'm going for less spin, crisp shifts and letting the other guy make all the noise.

If you're stock, keep it at 5800 to 5900 and she'll reward you, wait for the higher shifts after you give the thing some air to breath, try sucking air in from a straw, run down the street and see how high you can rev, run open mouthed and you get the picture.

Hmmmm not the best mental picture but it will do...

Amazing what some air, a good tune and gears will do! Congrats!
