Engine break in time

RE: Engine break in time
everyone has their own way of breaking their babys in man. personally i just drove her a little easy(no redlining it or smokin tires) for the first thousand miles, varied the speed a lot per the manual, changed the oil to mobil one at a thousand miles, and then drove like a bat outta hell. i havent had any problems at all(knock on wood). but im pretty sure there really isnt anything your gonna do that can hurt it with the way these engines are made now. just enjoy her is the point.

There is no break in time.. It is all up to how you wish drive it. Now as for the clutch, if you have one, around 500 miles is the norm. Don't forget to bed in the brakes also. This helps out in the long run with the top of the line pads Ford uses. <-- Joking on the last bit of that statement.

RE: Engine break in time
I took it easy for the first 1000 miles then I raised hell in it for another 1000 miles and knock on wood I haven't had any real issues. The only issue I have is this really low pitched rattle I seem to get at lower speeds. The dealer changed the rear struts but I still hear it in the front. Anyone else have this problem?

RE: Engine break in time
i read the book, it says it doesnt need a long break in, but around 1k miles w/ alot of shifting. Dont stay in many gears. and it also said the breaks need to break in the 1st 200 miles i think..so no tailgating (not that you should be doing that either, but you guys get the idea)

RE: Engine break in time
Thank you guys for all your help. I was not familiar with the 3-valve engines. I have always heard that you are supposed to break the engine in the way you are supposed to drive it the rest of the vehicle's life.
