Rear-end whining/why not replace with 4.10s
i have been considering getting the 4.10s on my 06 std. recently, i have began to notice the whining noise coming from my rear end (that just sounds funny) that others have discussed. i'm wondering if i can get the dealer to replace the stock gears with ford 4.10s when they fix the whining noise, and not get charged for labor. if they have to brake down the rear end as "warranty work"to fix the whining, how hard would it be to change the gears, especially if i bought the 4.10s from the dealership? anyone have any idea?

Not sure if they'll go for it but it wouldn't hurt to ask them. Like you said, they are going to have to look at the gears to find out what is causing the noise. If they don't find anything "wrong" with the gears then they might charge you if you ask them to replace them with the 4.10s. They might say that the noise is just normal or throw in some gear oil in there and hope it stops the noise.
