Default Exhaust Pipe Color

I put on a set of SLP Loudmouth mufflers last night and when I was taking off the SLP Powerflo mufflers I noticed they are pretty black inside. I don't think it is supposed to be that color. My thought is that it is running a little too lean. I have the JLT CAI and a Predator tune for 87 octane. I use 87 octane all the time because I travel 65 miles one way to work everyday and the higher octane will kill my mod budget.

Any thoughts on what is causing this condition? Should I hit the dyno shop?

That is probably normal. I just replaced the slp loudmouths on mine because of a rear end collision and they were black. How is the sound of the SLP Powerflo mufflers coompared to the loudmouths. Ever since I added the SLP catted xpipes I have a really loud raspy exhaust tone. I know the x-pipe doses this but was wondering if the powerflos will give it a more deeper tone.

+1 Black is rich, just get the A/F checked on the dyno as long as it's not too rich don't worry about it.

I like the sound much better and little deeper. Not quite as much drone as the Powerflo's and no raspy sound. I hate the raspy sounds. I still have the stock H pipe.

Since it is a brand new exhaust, perhaps what you are seeing is residue from the exhaust internal coating burning off.

Nope....the residue came from the rest of the pipes as well.
